The new elementary school building officially has a name - the Cedar Hill South Elementary School.
The name, voted by the School Committee at the August 18, 2026 meeting, reflects the geographic area of where the new building is being built. The new building will be located on a section of land off Park St./Route 27, close to where the existing South School is, as well as the Cedar Hill/Cedar Swamp area in south Stoughton.
When the Cedar Hill South Elementary School is ready to open for the start of the 2028-2029 school year, we will go from five elementary schools to four - the new building, along with the Dawe, Gibbons, and Hansen.
The School Committee’s vote comes as sitework is now underway for the project. A groundbreaking ceremony for the Cedar Hill South Elementary School will take place on Thursday, September 17 at 1:30pm (the first early dismissal day of the school year). The ceremony will take place in the cafetorium at the current South School, 171 Ash St.
As much as we would love to host the groundbreaking ceremony on location, the project site is not currently suitable for public access due to accessibility and parking limitations. We look forward to celebrating future milestones for the Cedar Hill South Elementary School project on site.
